Project- Native Mobile Application (iOS, Android)
Tools- Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator
About Favorscope
This project was part of my online course where I had to design a native mobile app following iOS and Material Design guidelines for users who want to buy gifts for special occasions, while providing them with a more convenient and personalized experience.
Design Process
The focus was on sprucing up what was already there in order to make a product marketable and aesthetically pleasing by following the key steps in the UX/UI design process. This helps me truly understand the user’s problems and create targeted solutions for their needs.
User Flow
After gathering the user personas and MVP, I stepped into the shoes of the user and having empathy for how they are going to actually experience my product; how they get to it, and how they move through:
- Sign up/Log in
- Finding and adding items to the cart
- Adding a date to the calendar
- Personalize gift pack in cart before checking out
My Project Takeaways
Research and User Testing are crucial while designing a product
Products are made to solve users problems hence it was extremely important that the design process is user-centered.
User tests reveal flaws which were minute yet easy to spot while using the product, which can be overlooked again and again.Even the tiniest addition can make a big difference
Adding the calendar feature in the app was useful as it helped users keep track of the special dates and they could choose and order gifts ahead of time and the gifts would be delivered on the day as instructed by the users. Along with that, the option to set reminders helped remind the users of the special days through push notifications so that they don’t miss out on the dates.
Next steps
In future, I wish to reiterate the app and add a couple of features:
Make the app a two way process between buyers and sellers.
Local artists and businesses can sell their products online through the app to the buyers which will not only help small businesses grow but will also be sustainable.
Add a chat feature so that buyers and sellers can communicate with each other and help make the process more trustworthy.
To sum up, I really enjoyed this project because I was able to learn more about a product, guidelines and the design process. This was my first well-researched and documented design project. I would like to solve more complex problems in future projects.
